In the interest of public safety the Adams County Board of Supervisors has subscribed to the CodeRED® Weather Warning Service for the entire County. The best thing is this service is free for all residents in Adams County to sign up.

Information about CodeRED® Weather Warning:

CodeRED® Weather Warning is an early telephone warning system designed to automatically deliver targeted weather notifications for the immediate threats of severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings and tornado warnings within moments of being issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

CodeRED® Weather Warning will deliver a pre-recorded alert message directly to your phones in the projected path of the severe weather. The system automatically sends these notifications 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing you the needed time to prepare. This becomes even more critical if a tornado comes through your area during the night, when television, radio broadcasts and sirens are ineffective.

CodeRED® Weather Warning uses new polygon warning methodologies based on Storm Based Warnings direct from the NWS and contacts only those in the affected areas, eliminating many false alarms associated with prior notification methods. CodeRED® Weather Warning monitors each NWS bulletin to determine the severity of the warning and the exact area(s) affected coupled with the predicted heading of the threatening storm. CodeRED® Weather Warning then creates a calling database of all subscribers within the projected area of the severe weather. This calling database is then immediately submitted to the CodeRED® Weather Warning automated calling system. By eliminating the need for human intervention to active warnings we have significantly decreased the response time for fast moving storms.

A system such as CodeRED® is only as good as the telephone database supporting it.  If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called.  The system offers individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's telephone database.    This can be done by clicking on the icon below to register your phone number with CodeRED®.

What information is required to sign up?

Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P. O. boxes), city, state, zip code and primary phone number (additional phone numbers can be added if you choose).

Why do you need a street address?

The reason the street address is required is because the CodeRED® system is a geographical-based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation.  The system works with cell phones too, but we must have a street address to with which to associate the number.  People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted number also need to change their address in the database.

Isn't my phone number automatically included?

Do not assume that your phone number is included.  All businesses should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and those who use a cell phone as their primary home phone.

Is my information secure?  Will it be shared out with anyone else?

CodeRED® gives those who want to be included in this program an easy and secure method for doing so.  The information will only be used for emergency notification purposes, and will not be shared with any outside parties.

For individuals who do not wish to share their information via the Internet or if you do not have access to the Internet, Adams County Emergency Management will provide you with the necessary forms to enroll.  Please contact the office at (601) 442-7021.
