Duties and Responsibilities

The Sheriff is elected at-large and serves a four-year term. The Sheriff's law enforcement duties include keeping peace within the county. Administrative duties include serving as the county's jailor, submitting a budget of his office to the Board of Supervisors, keeping Mississippi Department Reports, and keeping a jail docket.

Sheriff Chuck Mayfield was elected to the position of Sheriff of Adams County Mississippi and took office in December 2009.
He is the son of Charles and Bobbie Mayfield, and married to former Sylvia Sartin. They have a daughter, Kaitlyn Mayfield, who is currently attending USM.
Sheriff Mayfield has been in law enforcement for 27 years, with experience in all phases of the sheriff's office.  Beginning his law enforcement career as a  jailer, he was promoted to patrol deputy, narcotics officer and later Commander of the Natchez Adams Co Metro Narcotics Unit.  In addition, he has also has served as Adams County Youth Court Liaison. Chuck is an Elder in the Westminister Presbyterian Church in Natchez
He holds numerous law enforcement teaching and training certificates, and has been named Man of the Year for 2010 by the Miss-Lou Magazine,  and  Southwest Mississippi Rural Health Coalition Public Official of the Year for 2009.
He has worked extensively with local, state, and Federal agencies including Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearm and Exposives, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Mississippi, U.S. Customs Service (Cross Designated as Customs Officer 1988 to 2004), Ms. Bureau of Narcotics, Ms. Highway Patrol C.I.B., Natchez Police Dept., Sixth District of Ms. District Attorney’s Office,  F.B.I. both in Ms. And La., La. State Police, Concordia Parish La. Sheriff’s Office (Cross designated as Concordia Parish Deputy Sheriff 1993 to 2004), U.S. Marshal’s Service, Baton Rouge La. Police Dept., and many other  agencies.
